Heartburn, also known as acid indigestion, can be very painful and definitely annoying at the least. Millions of people are suffering from it everyday but yet there doesn’t seem to be any permanent heartburn relief in sight – just temporary. In this article I hope to share with you some tips on how to get heartburn relief.

I was definitely one of the millions who suffered daily from heartburn and was desperate to find some permanent relief. I tried everything but only found that my symptoms would return if I stopped taking whatever medication I was trying at the time. So after years of trial and error I was able to find some natural remedies that finally gave me that permanent heartburn relief that I was desperately searching (see also how to get rid of heartburn).

Here are some tips that I found worked for me and hopefully for you also on how to get heartburn relief:

One of the first things I found is I needed to stop taking the medications that I was consuming to get heartburn relief such as antacids and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). What I found in my research is that these drugs over time will actually make your symptoms worse. This is due to the fact that they either neutralize or inhibit the production of acid in your stomach. Once you stop taking these medications your body will overcompensate by producing too much acid.

So, after I had stopped taking medications to get relief from the burning sensation associated with heartburn I needed to find some natural remedies. What I found was herbs such as slippery elm, marshmallow and ginger helped to relieve the burning sensation.

Next,  I needed to find a way to stop the symptoms from occurring.

I also found during my research is that eating small meals frequently throughout the day was easier on my digestive system. This allowed my stomach to digest the small quantities easier without having to produce to much digestive juices.

Also, when I ate my meals I made sure to chew my food thoroughly to a mush or liquid consistency before swallowing. Again, this helps in easing the digestion of the food.

Try not to drink to much liquid during your meals as it will tend to dilute the stomach acid and stick to room temperature water which seems to help.

I know that in today’s society of “instant gratification” and “hectic lifestyles” it’s hard for many people to take the time necessary to adhere to a diet that would give them permanent heartburn relief over time. It’s much easier to swallow a pill that promises to give instant relief – but at what cost and how much heartburn relief does it actually provide?

By following these simple tips on how to get heartburn relief, over time you should start seeing some results and not have to suffer anymore.
